Each Smart Rebar piece bonds seamlessly along its entire length, requiring it to untwist as it pulls out of the concrete—unlike traditional steel fibers that rely solely on friction for pullout. After a crack forms, Smart Rebar maintains stable capacity, allowing engineers to design with the reliability of traditional rebar.

Many incorrectly assume that Smart Rebar is just 'another' steel fibre.
Smart Rebar must untwist to pull from the concrete which results in a torsion failure mechanism as apposed to bending or friction. Figure 1 shows the force diagram of Smart Rebar wire when being pulled from the concrete matrix.
The torsional pullout mechanism requires considerably more force (2-5 times more) than steel fibres and remains consistent over ~80-90% of the embedded length.
